AK Jensen Group (AKJ), an independent brokerage serving the institutional and hedge fund industries, has appointed Tom Mackay to the group’s board.

Mackay joins the board having acted as the lead lawyer to the firm for many years.

He is a seasoned corporate/commercial solicitor with considerable international and financial services experience, predominantly as a partner in international law firms in the City of London.

His experience includes being head of legal department at the London Stock Exchange at a time when it carried out much of the regulatory function which is now administered by the FCA.

Prior to that he was head of legal at 3i which, during his tenure, grew to serve about 80 per cent of the UK venture capital/private equity business in its targeted market across its 28 area offices.

AKJ’s chief executive officer Anders Kvamme Jensen says: “Tom is the perfect addition to the board of AKJ. He brings the foremost expertise in the legal management of hedge funds to the AKJ board, and we are thrilled to have him joining as we continue to grow, innovate and develop AKJ Accelerator, our hedge fund platform. This appointment underpins the company’s ongoing commitment to promoting the highest professional standards in everything we do including regulatory compliance and corporate governance”.

Mackay adds: “I am pleased to be joining the group board of AKJ which recently won a prestigious award for having the best hedge fund platform in Europe. The business plan is to continue to increase our assets under management and my focus will be on assisting the CEO in ensuring we have robust systems in place to manage AKJ’s significant expansion. Also as we drive forward we need to consider whether we expand beyond our current EEA boundaries. AKJ have an excellent well motivated staff and I look forward to working with them even more closely.”
