The Avon Pension fund has selected boutique asset manager Unigestion to manage a GBP165m (EUR200m) emerging markets equity mandate.
The mandate will be managed under Unigestion’s emerging markets equity strategy which generates out performance for its investors through the construction of actively risk managed portfolios.
Tony Bartlett, head of business, finance and pensions of Bath and North East Somerset Council, says: “Unigestion has a strong track record of delivering returns and controlling downside risk exposure. They are relentless at undertaking research to ensure the evolution of their investment processes. In particular, the extensive qualitative analysis undertaken by Unigestion and their quantitative models, in combination with their forward looking analysis of risks, were key in our selection decision.”
Michel Bernard, director within Unigestion’s institutional client team in London, says: “This appointment reflects the significant institutional demand for strategies providing exposure to emerging markets equity while limiting the impacts of the volatility inherent to this segment.”
