AXA Investment Managers (AXA IM) has appointed Stephen Sexeny as head of US client group, effective 3 November 2014.

Sexeny joins from New York Life, where he served in senior sales roles since 2006, including most recently as head of business development and investor relations at New York Life’s Cornerstone Capital Management unit.

In this newly-created role, Sexeny will be responsible for leading AXA IM’s distribution efforts in the US and will work with institutions, plan sponsors and consultants to offer investment solutions drawing on all of AXA IM’s areas of investment expertise. Sexeny will be based in Greenwich, Connecticut, and will report to Xavier Thomin, head of Americas AXA IM.

“Stephen’s considerable experience and his trusted relationships in the US market, coupled with AXA IM’s global capabilities, will be pivotal as we continue to expand our footprint in this important region,” says Thomin. “The appointment of Stephen underlines our determination to continue building on the back of our successes so far this year.”

AXA IM has won a number of significant new mandates in the US this year, including USD82 million from the San Antonio City Public Services Employee pension fund and a USD397 million US investment grade fixed income mandate from a US reinsurer. The global asset manager has launched two new private funds in the US in the last 18 months: AXA IM International Small Cap Fund (June 2013) and AXA US Core High Yield (February 2014), with further launches planned for late this year including two mutual funds. A Participating affiliate arrangement currently being developed between AXA IM’s regional entities will also broaden the range of investments that will be made available to US investors by enabling AXA IM to offer strategies managed out of Europe to a range of US institutional investors.

“AXA IM is focused firmly on its clients and providing a complete range of products and solutions to cater to their needs,” says Sexeny. “I am thrilled to join AXA IM at such an exciting time for the firm and have the opportunity to work with the team to build on the successful High Yield franchise and considerable footprint that AXA Rosenberg has in the US. I look forward to working in partnership with the US institutional and wholesale market to ensure they have access to the full range of solutions that AXA IM has to offer.”

Sexeny served on the executive leadership team in his previous role at Cornerstone and was responsible for marketing the firm’s investment capabilities globally to plan sponsors, hedge fund of funds and consultants. Prior to New York Life and Cornerstone, Sexeny held a variety of senior marketing roles for Franklin Portfolio Associates, Rhumbline Advisers and Boston Global Advisors.
