Baron Capital names James Barrett head of institutional sales

Baron Capital Group has appointed James Barrett as head of institutional sales.

In this newly created position Barrett is responsible for sales for institutional distribution channels.

He will report directly to Linda Martinson, president and chief operating officer of the firm.

"Jim has extensive experience in asset management sales and distribution and we are very pleased to welcome him to the firm," says Martinson. "He understands the investment and distribution opportunities we have at Baron and he will be an excellent addition as we work to strengthen and grow this important part of our business."

Barrett has over 25 years of experience in financial services and over 19 years in asset management marketing and sales. Most recently, he was a managing director and head of global distribution at Citadel Investment Group.

Prior to that, he served as senior managing director and head of global business development for Bear Stearns Asset Management, and was responsible for global sales and marketing to institutional and retail markets.

He also spent three years with Bank of New York Asset Management, where he was a managing director and global head of sales and servicing, responsible for sales, servicing, and marketing of a diverse product line, including long-only, international, hedge fund of funds, international hedge fund and private equity strategies.
