bfinance hires Niels Bodenheim as director, private markets

RELATED TOPICS

bfinance, an independently owned investment consultancy, has appointed Niels Bodenheim as director of debt services in the firm’s private markets team.

Bodenheim joins from GE Capital, where he has worked for the last 14 years.

He was most recently executive director at Mubadala GE Capital, the commercial finance joint venture owned by the Government of Abu Dhabi’s investment vehicle, Mubadala and General Electric. He sourced USD3 billion of commercial finance loans and led a team responsible for investment and risk assessment in its London office, reviewing over 100 deals per year.

Bodenheim previously served for two years as director in the GE Corporate Finance Bank, a leading leveraged loan platform, charged with evaluating deals and underwriting transactions.

From 2001 to 2008, Bodenheim worked in a number of roles at GE Healthcare Financial Services in the US and London, structuring and underwriting leveraged finance, real estate, venture loans and equity deals focused on healthcare related segments of the market.

At bfinance, Bodenheim will be responsible for the company’s debt research services, spanning real estate debt, infrastructure debt, private corporate debt and direct lending. He will support recently appointed head of private markets, Peter Hobbs, in expanding the consultancy’s private markets business.

bfinance’s range of services provided includes portfolio strategy and design, portfolio risk reviews and solutions, investment manager search and selection and due diligence.

Hobbs says: "We are delighted to welcome Niels to our growing private markets team. Private debt is an area that has seen a significant rise in interest from institutions as they search for better returns and our team of consultants and specialists has been advising a broad range of both pension funds and insurance companies to help them achieve their investment goals.

“The pace of change in some sectors of private markets means that even the most sophisticated asset owners benefit from working with experts in these areas, and Niels contributes a wealth of experience in origination, underwriting, risk management and portfolio management processes that will drive our growing work in this sector.”

Bodenheim says: "It’s an exciting time to join bfinance as it begins on its next phase of growth following the acquisition by Baird. In private markets in particular the company has been one of the earliest in the market to adapt to emerging subclasses of private debt, and I look forward to working with Peter and the broader team to continue building on this track record of successful client advice as it becomes an increasingly core component of institutional portfolios."
