Calderwood appoints Casey McDonald as principal

RELATED TOPICS

Cayman Islands fund governance specialist Calderwood has appointed offshore practitioner Casey McDonald as a principal, providing independent director services.

Specialising in insolvency and restructuring work, McDonald (pictured) brings significant expertise to Calderwood, which launched its fund governance offering in June 2016, providing independent directors to investment funds alongside a suite of fund governance solutions.

With the addition of McDonald to Calderwood’s co-founders – Ronan Guilfoyle and Wade Kenny – the directors together have over 25 years’ experience providing fiduciary services and over 45 years’ combined experience in the financial services sector.

“We are delighted to welcome Casey to the Calderwood team and we are extremely excited about our prospects for 2017, given the incredible reception we received to our launch last year,” says Guilfoyle. “Although fewer funds are being established in the current climate, we have seen a notable increase in demand for experienced independent directors with a proven track record and low relationships, as investors continue to demand higher standards of fund governance.”

“I am thrilled to be joining a highly regarded firm as Calderwood at such an exciting time for them and an interesting time for the funds industry,” says McDonald. “With my experience in contentious and non-contentious offshore matters, throughout the Caribbean as well as the US and Asia, I expect to be able to add significant value to the team,” he added. “I am looking forward to the challenges ahead immensely.”

McDonald spent over 15 years with KPMG, working in Canada, the Cayman Islands, London and the British Virgin Islands, where he led KPMG’s advisory practice and co-managed the office. More recently, he was managing director of the Cayman Islands office of a boutique insolvency and fraud investigation firm. He has acted as a court or shareholder appointed fiduciary in relation to hedge funds, banks, insurers and property developers, as well as shipping companies and manufacturing firms.
