CANDRIAM Academy launches new climate change module

RELATED TOPICS

The CANDRIAM Academy, a free-to-access accredited training platform for sustainable and responsible investing, has launched a new module on climate change. This is the tenth module within The CANDRIAM Academy.

The new climate change module, the tenth offered by the CANDRIAM Academy,  aims to analyse the changes to extreme weather patterns caused by human activity and anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions. The module also explores topics such as carbon offsetting as well as the risks associated with  transitioning to a low-carbon economy.

In only one hour, the new module will cover: the causes of and distinction between climate change and global warming; how the main sources of greenhouse emissions have changed over time; the Paris Agreement: how did we get here and how will it work; and the principles around the carbon credit system and the “dirty 100” responsible for approximately 70 per cent of greenhouse emissions globally

Launched in 2017 by CANDRIAM, a global sustainable and multi-asset focused investment manager with over 25 years of expertise in sustainable investing, the CANDRIAM Academy aims to raise the awareness, education and knowledge of institutional investors and financial intermediaries on the topic of sustainable and responsible investing via an innovative online platform of inspiring and actionable content and materials. The CANDRIAM Academy is free-to-access and is available across 30 countries. Currently, the platform has 6,000 members across a range of backgrounds including institutional investors, fund selectors, private bankers, IFAs, retail investors, media as well as students.

According to The World Economic Forum’s The Global Risks Report 2021, extreme weather was recognised as the leading global risk by likelihood, closely followed by climate action failure. As investors, corporates and governments strive to achieve net-zero status and take action to prevent the global temperature increase exceeding 2⁰C above pre-industrial levels, collaboration and increased knowledge sharing is set to play a critical role.

David Czupryna, Head of ESG Development, says: “Climate change remains top of the international community’s agenda and is a key part of corporate and investor risk management. Due to the complex nature of climate change, we felt it was important to leverage our expertise in responsible investment to develop an inclusive and easily accessible module that sought to educate and inform our growing membership on this catastrophic risk.”

Over the last few years CANDRIAM has been actively addressing the climate change agenda, developing innovative new products to meet the growing need of its clients. In June 2019, CANDRIAM launched its first carbon neutral fund, CANDRIAM Sustainable Equity Climate Action, which invests in global companies providing long-term climate change solutions. The fund combines sustainability and thematic investing, two of CANDRIAM’s key expertises.
