SYZ Asset Management, the institutional asset management division of the SYZ Group, has appointed Cédric Vuignier (pictured) as Head of Manager Research & Alternative Investments, and Bertrand Dord, as senior analyst.

Vuignier will take up his position on 1 June 2016, replacing Michaël Malquarti, who is taking his career in a new direction. A joint handover period until the end of June will enable a smooth transition between the two managers.

Based in Geneva, Vuignier has over 14 years of experience in alternative investments research and selection, of which 12 years were with HSBC (2000-2012) in New York and Geneva.

At HSBC, Vuignier led an alternative portfolio management team for eight years (2004-2012), where he was responsible for 400 mandates. During his leadership assets under management increased from USD350 million to USD1.7 billion, mainly due to excellent performance results. Prior to SYZ, Vuignier was Head of Alternative Investments at AppleTree Asset Management. Vuignier, 42, holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in finance from the University of Geneva HEC. Supported by a team of seven experienced specialists at SYZ Asset Management, Cedric Vuignier will be lead Portfolio Manager of the funds of funds managed to date by Michaël Malquarti.

In addition, the Manager Research & Alternative Investments Team has been strengthened with the arrival on 1 May of Dord as Senior Analyst. He was previously a Senior Hedge Fund Analyst at Lyxor Asset Management for the past seven years (2009-2016), focusing on event driven strategies, hedge fund analysis and selection and the launch of new funds. Prior to that, Dord held various positions at Société Générale in London and Paris including interest and foreign exchange hedging and CLOs (2006-2009). Dord majored in finance from HEC Paris and is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA).

Commenting on the appointments, Katia Coudray, CEO of SYZ Asset Management, says: “Cédric Vuignier has developed a deep knowledge of the hedge fund industry and will be able to draw on his broad network to enable SYZ Asset Management to select the best alternative investment fund managers.”

Vuignier adds: “SYZ Asset Management has a very long track record in using alternative investments within a range of alpha generating, multi-asset portfolios. I am delighted to be joining at a time when researching and identifying winning funds is more important than ever”.
