Denmark’s PFA Pension acquires Nordic Asset Management

PFA Pension has acquired Nordic Asset Management to reinforce its investment activities and to be able to provide asset management to labour market pension companies in the future.

PFA Pension says it sees an opportunity and need for economies of scale within the pension industry. The company will therefore offer asset management to other institutional investors, including labour market pension companies.

‘Our results from 2008 leave no room for doubt that we have an excellent investment department. We need to be better to take advantage of this,’ says Henrik Heideby, chief executive of PFA Pension (pictured). ‘We would like to provide asset management to a number of small pension funds, and we are able to do so even better, if we own an independent asset management company.’

PFA Pension expects that the acquisition will make it more possible for it to develop investment concepts targeted towards seniors and develop investment competencies at the firm.

Peter Ott, managing director of Nordic Asset Management, says:  ‘We will continue with the same team and products. Our existing customers will therefore not experience any changes. In return, we will be given a significant strong point and the possibility of obtaining a broader product range with an owner who is one of the strongest and most professional asset managers in this country.’

Nordic Asset Management was founded in 2001 and manages approximately DKK28bn.

PFA Pension is Denmark’s largest customer-owned pension company. The company manages approximately DKK219bn.
