Marlborough Fund Managers has announced the long-term succession planning strategy for the three UK Smaller Companies funds co-managed by Giles Hargreave. The funds are Marlborough Special Situations, Marlborough UK Micro-Cap Growth and Marlborough Nano-Cap Growth.

While Hargreave will continue to play a central role in the running of the three funds, from 1 January 2021 he will no longer be a named co-manager.

His long-established co-managers Eustace Santa Barbara and Guy Feld will be the named co-managers of all three funds from that date.

Santa Barbara, who has co-managed Marlborough Special Situations with Hargreave for more than five years, will take on the additional role of co-manager of Marlborough UK Micro-Cap Growth and Marlborough Nano-Cap Growth.

Feld, who has co-managed Marlborough UK Micro-Cap Growth with Hargreave for more than eight years and co-managed Marlborough Nano-Cap Growth with him for over six years, will take on the additional role of co-manager of Marlborough Special Situations.

Hargreave will continue to lead weekly investment meetings and work closely with Santa Barbara and Feld.

The well-established investment process and philosophy used on all three funds will remain unchanged and the managers will continue to work with the support of a highly experienced investment team of more than a dozen people.

Wayne Green, Joint Managing Director of Marlborough Fund Managers, says: “The success of the funds over many years has been down to a team-based approach. Giles has assembled and mentored a first-class team of experienced fund managers who are all strong believers in the investment process and philosophy that have made these funds so popular with investors.

“Giles will continue to work closely with the fund managers and his experience and expertise will continue to make an important contribution to the success of the funds.”

Hargreave says: “Working with a large and talented team investing in some of the UK’s most exciting and innovative businesses is a great privilege and I look forward to continuing to do so. We have a very strong and collaborative team, united by one investment philosophy, and we are committed to our aim of seeing the funds continue to go from strength to strength.”
