Neuberger Berman introduces long/short fund

RELATED TOPICS

Neuberger Berman has introduced the Neuberger Berman Long Short Fund (“the Fund”) (tickers: NLSAX, NLSCX, NLSIX), providing investors with a long-short investment strategy that seeks long-term capital appreciation and principal preservation, and is available with daily liquidity at a minimum investment of USD1,000.

The fund employs a fundamentally driven investment approach with the flexibility to invest long and short. The Fund’s bottom-up, all-cap approach seeks to invest long in attractive businesses with strong management teams and compelling valuations. Short investments are utilised to seek increased returns or provide “insurance” to manage exposure and reduce risks.

The fund’s managers may invest in fixed income securities and in equities of both US and non-US companies. The Fund seeks both long-term capital appreciation and principal preservation, and may serve as a complement to traditional equity and fixed income strategies.

The Fund is managed by Charles Kantor (pictured), an 18-year investment industry veteran who is a managing director at Neuberger Berman and leads the firm’s Kantor Group, which invests approximately USD850 million for individuals and institutions. The Fund’s portfolio management team includes William Muller, CFA, Charles Nguyen, CFA, and Marc Regenbaum, three Kantor Group research analysts with over 30 years of combined industry experience, and is further supported by Neuberger Berman’s global resources, including a global trading desk, a centralized global equity research department, and risk oversight specialists.

While this mutual fund opened to investors on 29 December, 2011, Kantor and his colleagues have been employing a similar investment strategy since March 2008. From the beginning of this year through April 30, 2012, the Neuberger Berman Long Short Fund A shares class has ranked within the top decile of its multi-alternative fund category, according to fund tracker Morningstar Inc.

“We always seek to provide our clients with a total return investment strategy that is characterized by continuous risk management and an emphasis on preserving capital,’’ says Kantor. “We view this Fund as a natural extension of our core investment principles and are thrilled to have this approach available to mutual fund investors.’’

“We’re excited to bring this innovative strategy to investors in a mutual fund format, a first for our firm,’’ says Joseph Amato, president and chief investment officer of Neuberger Berman. “The Neuberger Berman Long Short Fund is managed by a seasoned team with a demonstrated track record and supported by our firm’s global resources and a history of over 72 years of helping clients preserve and build wealth.’’
