Northern LGPS appoints new Chair

RELATED TOPICS

Northern LGPS, formerly the Northern Pool, has appointed Councillor Paul Doughty as its new Chair.

Doughty will lead the GBP45 billion pool, one of Britain’s largest public investment funds, which comprises the combined assets of the Greater Manchester, West Yorkshire and Merseyside local government pension schemes (LGPS).

He currently chairs both the Merseyside Pension Fund and the Local Authority Pension Fund Forum, which represents 79 local government pension funds with assets of over GBP200 billion.

Doughty takes up his new role with immediate effect and will be supported by Brenda Warrington, who chairs the Greater Manchester Pension fund, and West Yorkshire Pension Fund chair Andrew Thornton.

He replaces Ian Greenwood, the former chair of the West Yorkshire Pension Fund, who died after a short illness in November.

Doughty says: “It’s a real privilege to be asked to take up this role. Both Ian and his predecessor, Kieran Quinn, brought tremendous energy and commitment to this role and to the honourable aim of ensuring council workers enjoy a decent and dignified retirement.”

“Northern LGPS is totally committed to remaining the most cost-effective and efficient pool in the local government pension scheme, underpinned by a simple but effective democratic governance structure.”
