Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan has appointed Iain Kennedy as a director in the Teachers’ private capital team (TPC) in the firm’s London office.

Kennedy (pictured) previously spent 16 years (11 as partner) at Duke Street, a UK mid-market private equity fund, and was a member of the investment committee.

He has an established track record in the UK business and financial services sectors where he was responsible for the identification and execution of some of Duke Street’s most successful deals, including: Xafinity, Marlin, Payzone, Parabis and Baywater.

TPC, formed in 1991, is the private equity investment division of Teachers’ and has built a world-class private equity investment portfolio, currently valued at c. CAD12bn in invested and committed capital. TPC invests directly, regularly co-invests alongside other private equity funds and invests in funds to gain access to new regions or sectors.

Kennedy says: “Teachers’ has the significant advantages of secure access to capital, a flexible investment strategy and a long-term horizon. I’m confident Teachers’ will continue its progress to become one of the premier private equity investors in Europe. It’s an exciting challenge to join the Private Capital team and help them build on their existing achievements.”

Jo Taylor, head of Teachers’ London office, says: “We are delighted that Iain has joined Teachers' Private Capital in London, as we look to build on the significant momentum that the team has developed in the past 2-3 years. I believe that Teachers' offering of flexible, patient capital will continue to have strong appeal to growing companies with outstanding management teams in Europe. The team will also continue to focus on supporting our private equity fund partners with knowledgeable and experienced resources which can be fully responsive to co-investment opportunities.”
