OSTC appoints UCL professor as Non-Executive Director

RELATED TOPICS

OSTC, a global derivatives trading and education business, has appointed Professor Rose Luckin as an independent non-executive Board member.

Luckin is Professor of Learner Centred Design at the UCL Knowledge Lab in London. Her research involves the design and evaluation of educational technology using theories from the learning sciences and techniques from Artificial Intelligence (AI).

She has a particular interest in using AI to open up the ‘black box’ of learning to show teachers and students the detail of their progress intellectually, emotionally and socially. Rose is also Director of EDUCATE, a London hub for Educational Technology StartUps, researchers and educators to work together on the development of evidence-informed Educational Technology.

Luckin is leading the team of UCL data scientists that are helping OSTC apply AI and other smart technologies into the human capital areas of its business, including recruitment, mentoring and training of traders.

Luckin was named on the Seldon List 2017 as one of the 20 most influential people in Education. She is a UFI charity trustee, a governor and trustee of St Paul’s school in London and a governor of the Self-Managed Learning College in Brighton. She has taught in the state secondary, Further Education and Higher Education sectors, and she was previously Pro-Vice Chancellor for Teaching and Learning at the University of Sussex.

Luckin replaces Donna Whitehead, who is stepping down from the Board following her appointment as Deputy Vice-Chancellor of London Metropolitan University.

Jonny Aucamp, Chairman of OSTC, says: “Rose is a world-renowned academic, with unrivalled experience in the application of AI in the education sector.  Her invaluable contribution will underpin the governance of our company as we pursue our growth agenda, particularly in respect of ZISHI, our centralised knowledge suite. I would like to thank Donna Whitehead for her contribution to the Board and wish her every success in her new role at Metropolitan University.”

Luckin says: “I’m delighted to be joining the Board of OSTC at such an important stage of the company’s development. It’s a hugely entrepreneurial and innovative organisation, with a purpose, vision and values that really resonate with me. I look forward to helping the business reach its full potential.”
