Pictet AM (Japan) appoints Gavin Sharpe as president

Gavin Sharpe has been appointed as president of Pictet Asset Management (Japan), effective 1 July 2009.

Gavin Sharpe has been appointed as president of Pictet Asset Management (Japan), effective 1 July 2009.

Yoshiharu Okazaki, after 13 years leading Pictet in Japan, will become non-executive chairman.

Sharpe brings over 20 years of experience at Pictet to the Japanese operation. Most recently he was the chief financial officer of Pictet Asset Management and is a director of Pictet Asset Management, Pictet (London) and Pictet Asset Management S.A. He is also a Pictet Asset Management executive board member.

Sharpe began his career in the treasury department of United Biscuits in 1981 during which period he qualified as a Chartered Accountant. He moved to Galbraiths Ltd (a subsidiary of Samuel Montagu) as financial controller in 1985, before joining Pictet in 1987.

Ivan Pictet, senior partner of Pictet & Cie, says: ‘Yoshiharu Okazaki joined Pictet in 1996 and has presided over an long period of success for Pictet in Japan, building what has become the largest foreign asset management business in that country. We thank him for his tremendous contribution to the growth of the firm in Japan.’
