Principal Global Investors, an asset management firm, has appointed Philip Garcia as London-based head of client relationship management.

Reporting to European chief executive Nick Lyster, Garcia will have overall responsibility for Principal’s client relationships and will manage the wider European based client service team.

Lyster says: "We are thrilled to have Philip as part of the Principal Global Investors team. His experience in both the asset management and consulting industry should help us strengthen the relationships that we have with our clients, ensuring all clients have a first class experience with Principal.”

Before joining Principal, Garcia was director of client service for the EMEA region at T. Rowe Price, where he managed the firm’s largest European client relationships and specialised in US equity mandates.

Prior to that, Garcia spent 20 years at Towers Perrin, ultimately as the head of UK investment consulting. During his tenure at Towers Perrin he also served as trustee of the UK pension plan, and chairman of the investment subcommittee.

Garcia says: “I’m delighted to be joining Principal, and look forward to further enhancing the firm’s strong relationships with its investors. Given the recent nature of the global economic climate, the importance of strong foundations between institutions and their clients cannot be over-emphasised.”
