Multi-manager boutique Hasley Investment Management has appointed investment academic Professor Steve Thomas of the Cass Business School to its investment committee.

Professor Thomas (pictured) has had a long association with Hasley and much of his investment thinking, including scepticism about market timing and the advocacy of diversification, has influenced Hasley’s investment philosophy.

Professor Thomas has been a finance professor at the University of Wales and Southampton University prior to joining Cass, and a visiting Professor at Queens University, Canada, and the ICMA Centre, Reading University, UK. In 1990 he was the Houblon-Norman fellow at the Bank of England.

Hasley manages the Elite Hasley Investment Funds with Way Fund Managers as the appointed ACD.

‘While many in the investment world have a commercial axe to grind, at Hasley we are fortunate to be guided by the investment academic community, whose views are based purely on the empirical evidence which they have analysed,’ says Hasley partner Roderick Collins.

‘It’s no coincidence that the most enlightened and successful investment management has been undertaken by the endowment funds of US universities, which have been managed by academics.’

‘I am particularly pleased to be joining the Hasley team as the group shares a common belief in the importance of detailed research allied with ‘thinking outside the box’ to create innovative portfolios with careful risk controls which offer clients something genuinely different from conventional offerings,’ says Professor Thomas.
