Putnam Investments builds out institutional consultant relations team with two new hires

Putnam Investments is further strengthening its Global Institutional Management consultant relations team through the hiring of two industry veterans, Charlotte Walsh and Greg Weissman as Consultant Relations professionals, based in Chicago and Boston, respectively.

Walsh and Weissman, who will report directly to Joseph Phoenix, Head of Putnam Global Institutional Management, are joining a senior level consultant team that includes Keith Thomas in London and Anne Lundberg in Chicago, as well as two Boston-based consultant relations associates, all of whom will continue in their current roles. The new team will be dedicated to serving the needs of institutional asset management consultants worldwide.

“Institutional asset management has long been a significant focus of Putnam and among its key offerings to the broader marketplace,” says Phoenix. “In selecting two such outstanding and experienced professionals as Charlotte and Greg to deepen our relationships with and service to the consultant community, the firm is further underscoring its commitment to providing thoughtful, innovative and sophisticated solutions to existing and prospective institutional clients globally.”

Phoenix indicated that the firm’s broader institutional team draws upon a highly talented group of professionals who have extensive hands-on experience across numerous disciplines including portfolio management, consultant relations and investment banking. Further, he noted, Putnam’s senior-level consultant relations professionals, in particular, bring, on average, over a decade of experience to their work with the global consultant community.

Walsh, who has more than twenty years of experience in the investment management industry, joins Putnam from Ranieri Partners where she was managing director, focusing on direct sales and consultant relations. Walsh has a long history of consultant relations experience at firms such as Allegiant Asset Management, Oppenheimer Capital, and Banc One Investment Advisors/JP Morgan Asset Management, as well as investment consulting experience at Stratford Advisory Group and William M. Mercer Investment Consulting. She attended Northwestern University and is a CFA charterholder.

Weissman brings more than two decades of experience to his role at Putnam, having joined the firm from Old Mutual Asset Management where he was senior vice president, director of consultant relations. Prior to that, he was director, institutional sales for Cowen & Company. During his career, Weissman has also held senior roles at Pacific Crest Securities and Jefferies & Company, Greg is a graduate of Southern Methodist University, Edwin Cox School for Business.

Through offices in North America, Europe and Asia, Putnam currently has relationships with more than 100 institutional clients worldwide, accounting for more than $57 billion in assets under management. Putnam’s institutional clients include sovereign wealth funds, endowments and foundations, government pension funds, the defined benefit retirement plans of leading corporations and other large institutional investors.
