Russell launches World Cap Index

RELATED TOPICS

Russell Investments has launched a benchmark to offer investors increased flexibility in their global mandate.

The Russell World Cap Index combines the US broad-market Russell 3000 Index and the Russell Global ex-US Large Cap Index.

It currently comprises 5,193 securities and about 93 per cent of the Russell Global Index.

“The Russell World Cap Index emulates the current investing behavior of US institutional investors who typically include small cap stocks in their domestic portfolios, but exclude them from their non-domestic portfolios,” says Lori Richards, a managing director for Russell Investments. “Russell is dedicated to offering robust, relevant global benchmarks that represent the way institutional investors invest.”

Richards says that as the global economy expands, institutional investors tend to seek broader exposure to investable companies around the world.

“Current trends in global investing—including the growing use of global mandates, a broader view of the global opportunity set and a decline in home country bias—require a benchmark that reflects the evolution of the global equity landscape,” she adds.
