RELATED TOPICS

Sacker & Partners (Sackers), a specialist law firm for UK pensions and retirement savings, has promoted James Bingham to the partnership. In addition, Emma Martin has been promoted to associate director, and Sarah Stimson and Oliver Topping to senior associate.

The promotions take effect on 1 August 2018, on which date the firm will have 28 partners and 30 other lawyers.

Announcing the promotions, Ian Pittaway, senior partner, says: “These promotions, from all levels of the firm, are thoroughly deserved. We will continue to promote from within and recruit new talent to ensure that we provide the best possible service to all our clients.”

Bingham is a litigator who advises trustees and employers on a wide range of pensions disputes. He has been involved in a number of high profile pension cases. Recent experience includes acting for the members of the Wedgwood Pension Plan in a case concerning the extent to which the Plan had closed to future accrual and acting for the trustees and the company in obtaining rectification of certain deeds relating to the Saga Pension Scheme. He also has significant experience advising on TPR’s regulatory powers in a DB and a DC context, professional negligence actions and member disputes. Bingham is ranked by Chambers UK 2018 as a lawyer to watch and adds valuable support at partner level to Peter Murphy who heads the highly regarded Sackers litigation team.

Martin is a general pensions lawyer who advises trustees and employers on a wide range of DB and DC issues. She is a DC specialist, with experience advising occupational DC schemes including master trusts and personal pension schemes, both in relation to project work and ongoing advisory work.

Stimson advises trustees and employers on a wide range of issues affecting their DB and DC arrangements. These include mergers, closures, communication reviews and transfer exercises.

Topping is a general pensions lawyer who advises trustees and employers on a range of pensions issues. Much of his recent work has involved advising trustees on the implications of GDPR.
