Schroders strengthens Systematic Investments unit

RELATED TOPICS

Schroders has strengthened its newly renamed Schroders Systematic Investments (SSI) team with the hire of a senior quantitative investment specialist.

Philipp Kauer (pictured) has joined in a newly created role as quantitative portfolio manager, bringing his alpha-generating expertise to Schroders’ clients by looking to harvest consistent factor-based returns from markets.

He will report into Ashley Lester, Head of Multi-Asset Research and Systematic Investments.

SSI, which was formerly known as Schroders Advanced Beta unit, sits within Schroders’ Multi-Assets Investments division.

It manages GBP8 billion across a range of strategies, predominantly on behalf of institutional clients globally, including pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, charities and insurance companies.

SSI is dedicated to bringing high-quality systematic, factor-based strategies to clients, including the GBP4 billion Global Multi-Factor Equity strategy, launched last year, and the Sustainable Multi-Factor Equity fund, which was launched last month.

Kauer, who has over 23 years of quantitative investment experience, joins from Man AHL where he was a Portfolio Manager and Senior Quantitative Researcher, focused on multi-factor and risk premia investing across asset classes.

He has also worked at Salomon Brothers, Credit Suisse and Brevan Howard.

Ashley Lester, Head of SSI and Multi-Asset Research, Schroders, says: “We believe too many investors are settling for second-best approaches to factor investing. Our mission is to bring investors factor-based approaches based on high quality, up to date scientific research.

“The arrival of Philipp is an important step forward in ensuring our clients benefit from our consistently-evolving approach to factor investing and our mission to deliver better risk-adjusted returns.”

Schroders’ Multi-Asset team employs over 100 people throughout the US, Europe and Asia Pacific, with GBP104.2 billion of assets under management.
