Scott Wentsel has been appointed to the new role of chief investment officer, Americas for Morningstar Investment Management.

Wentsel will be responsible for leading the investment management teams in the Americas. He will also contribute to Morningstar's global investment management committee, policies, capabilities, and thought leadership.

Based in Chicago, Wentsel reports to Daniel Needham, Morningstar's global chief investment officer.

"Scott has more than 25 years of experience in the investment industry. His extensive knowledge of investing and his leadership expertise will help us continue to take our best ideas and practices from across the company and create solutions for investors that produce better investing outcomes," Needham says.

Wentsel previously served as a senior portfolio manager in the firm's investment advisory group where he had asset management and oversight responsibility for a team of investment professionals who design and manage portfolios for financial institutions. He came to Morningstar when the company acquired Ibbotson Associates in 2006.

Before joining Ibbotson, Wentsel was an executive director with Morgan Stanley, where he worked primarily on the Van Kampen Investments asset management business. He also spent 13 years with Scudder Kemper Investments, holding a number of positions in its mutual fund business, including head of product development.
