Security Global Investors announces merger with Rydex Investments

Security Global Investors has announced its integration with Rydex Investments, a Maryland-based asset management firm.

Security Global Investors has announced its integration with Rydex Investments, a Maryland-based asset management firm.

The two firms are both owned by Security Benefit Corporation, a diversified financial holding company that acquired Rydex, a provider of mutual funds and exchange-traded funds, in June 2007.

Security Global Investors says that with some USD21bn in assets under management, the combined organisation offers institutional investors and financial intermediaries a broad spectrum of solutions-based investment competencies, including high quality alpha-oriented equity strategies and liquid alternative investment strategies.

Security Global Investors chief executive Richard Goldman has assumed the position of chief executive officer for the combined asset management firm, with Rydex chief executive Carl Verboncoeur transitioning to an advisory role in which, among other duties, he will continue to serve on the Rydex Funds’ Board of Trustees.

The integration has had no impact on the current investment teams.

"There is tremendous marketplace demand for liquid, daily valued, fully regulated and transparent alternative investments, for both institutional and individual retail investors," says Goldman. "Rydex is recognized for its innovation and leadership in providing a wide array of these types of non-traditional investment solutions. This demand, combined with the market demand for proven alpha-generating equity investment options, positions us well for the future."

SGI says its integration with Rydex marks the firm’s evolution as a multi-discipline asset manager and the expansion of its investment management capabilities beyond core portfolio offerings to include non-traditional asset classes and investment strategies.

Rydex’s expertise is in liquid alternative investments and quantitative investment management.

As an integrated asset management business and on an ongoing basis, the firm will operate as Security Global Investors. The firm will market its investment products and solutions as Security Global Investors to the institutional investment community and as Rydex Investments to the retail markets.
