Standard Life Investments (SLI) has launched currency hedged share classes for its GBP159m Japanese Equity Growth OEIC Fund.
This development offers investors the flexibility to access the Japanese equity market in local currency terms, mitigating the risk of sterling-yen exchange rate volatility.
The fund has been managed by Standard Life Investments’ strategic alliance partner, Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank Limited (SuMi TRUST) since October 2010. Over this period, it has produced top quartile performance and has returned 25.93 per cent to investors versus the IMA Japan sector average of 21.19 per cent.
Jacqueline Lowe, head of UK wholesale business, Standard Life Investments, says: “This is an exciting development for investors in our Japanese Equity Growth Fund and indeed for our UK mutual fund range as a whole. We have engaged with clients and leveraged on our experience of running hedged share classes on our SICAV range of funds. Although we have no imminent plans to launch additional hedged share classes on our UK mutual fund range, we would not rule this out for future consideration. As a leading asset manager, we are committed to offering our investors a wide and appropriate universe of investment solutions along with exceptional long-term investment returns.”
