Standard Life Investments (SLI) has added to its equities capabilities with the appointment of Scott Conlon as North American investment specialist.

In this newly created role, Conlon (pictured) will support the growth of Standard Life Investments’ global and regional equity strategies in the US and Canadian markets.

Conlon will be based in the company’s expanding North American headquarters in Boston and will work as part of a global team of investment specialists.

Conlon will work closely with the portfolio management teams to ensure the transfer of relevant knowledge to the distribution and client teams and to external clients, consultants and prospects.

Conlon will report to Tom Coleman, head of US investment specialists, who says: “We are delighted to welcome Scott to our team of investment specialists. Scott’s expertise and experience will be instrumental in supporting the commercial development of SLI’s global and regional equities capabilities in the North American marketplace. Scott will work closely with consultants, ensuring that public and corporate pension funds, endowments and foundations, wholesale distributors and insurance companies understand the value we can deliver to them through our equities solutions.”

Previously, Scott was vice president, portfolio strategist at State Street Global Advisors, where he focused on active equity, low volatility equity and smart beta equity strategies, covering US, global, and emerging market regions. He has been in the investment business for over 17 years.

Starting with just two employees in 2002, Standard Life Investments North America has grown to 103 professionals. In the last four years, 50 executives were hired in North America. Headquartered in Boston, new offices were opened last year in New York, Toronto and Los Angeles.
