Standard Life Investments’ UK Equity Unconstrained Fund has returned 150.80 per cent since inception seven years ago against the sector average of 37.15 per cent.
This performance places the fund as the best performing fund in its peer group since launch and it has been top decile over one, three, five and seven years.
The fund aims to provide investors with a strong capital growth opportunity in UK equities. The fund typically holds a concentrated portfolio of stocks and its unconstrained nature allows the manager to take advantage of under-researched opportunities from across the market. By referencing the FTSE 350 Equally Weighted Index rather than a traditional index, the fund is not influenced by market weightings and can focus on developing a portfolio of Standard Life Investments’ best investment ideas.
Mark Dampier, head of research at Hargreaves Lansdown, says: “A combination of Ed Legget’s talented stock-picking alongside a strong UK investment team using an in house propriety system which helps to identify changing dynamics within companies has contributed to a strong fund performance. This against what, in my view, has been the most difficult time for investing than I can ever remember. A cool head and a strong investment process has proved to be a winning combination. May it long continue”.
Ed Legget, manager of Standard Life Investments UK Equity Unconstrained Fund, says: “The strong outperformance of the fund since launch highlights the benefits of combining an unconstrained fund structure with our UK equity team’s ‘Focus on Change’ investment philosophy. As we look forward, the on-going economic uncertainty, above average volatility in the market, and short term focus of the majority of market participants continues to throw up attractive investment opportunities. I’m confident that the UK Equity Unconstrained Fund is well positioned to take full advantage.”
