Standard Bank has appointed Jonathan Peake to the role of head of risk to develop and maintain a risk management framework for the group’s offshore operations across three jurisdictions – based in Jersey, but also with oversight for the Isle of Man and Mauritius.
Peake’s (pictured) primary focus is to ensure that the high quality of Standard Bank Group’s risk management policies and standards are maintained and enhanced. He will work closely with the group’s risk team in South Africa.
Peake fills the role vacated by chief executive Mark Hucker.
“Having held the role of chief risk officer myself I fully appreciate the importance of understanding and managing risk. We operate in a sector and indeed a world that is changing very rapidly and face a huge range of challenges. I feel confident that Jonathan’s experience and his excellent technical and communication skills will be a valuable asset to Standard Bank’s offshore operations,” says Hucker.
Peake was most recently head of risk management at Deutsche Bank International in the Channel Islands, where he gained experience of offshore banking operations. Prior to this he was a senior manager at KPMG Forensic Services where he was recognised as an emerging leader. Peake led several large investigations, including one into a USD400m hedge fund fraud. He originally trained as an accountant.
