Fund manager Standard Life Investments has announced the launch of a European equity income fund.

Fund manager Standard Life Investments has announced the launch of a European equity income fund.

The fund aims to provide investors with a yield of 115 per cent of that on the FTSE Europe ex UK GBP Index together with the potential for some capital appreciation over the longer term.

The fund, which will be managed by Will James, will invest pre-dominantly in high yielding European equities with the potential for some exposure to convertibles, fixed interest and cash.

Jacqueline Kerr, head of mutual and life fund investments at Standard Life Investments, says: ‘This fund has been launched in response to increased demand from UK investors seeking access to the diversity of equity income from outside the UK. The strength of our European equity investment capabilities are well represented by the European Equity Growth Fund which has produced top quartile performance over three, five, seven and ten years and a 38 per cent return to investors versus its sector average of 20.7 per cent since the fund’s launch in November 1998. On the income side, our UK Equity High Income Fund has returned top decile performance over three, five and seven years in addition to producing 9.73 per cent annual average growth of income since the year 2000. Both of these funds are rated by Standard & Poor’s and the UK Equity High Income Fund is also rated by OBSR.

‘The launch of this new fund allows us to expand the successful OEIC range already available to investors and to build upon our existing track record of providing income solutions and investing successfully in European companies. We believe that the fund manager’s differentiated approach (which emphasises income generation from dividend focussed, cash disciplined companies), the potential for capital growth and our robust and repeatable investment process, will appeal to retail investors and discretionary asset managers looking to add value in the region.’

The fund is intended for investors who wish to participate in the opportunity of achieving a high level of income with some capital appreciation over the longer term afforded by investing in actively managed portfolio of mainly European equities.

The investor must be able to accept significant temporary losses due to the volatile nature of equity markets and should therefore have an investment time horizon of at least five years.
