State Street Global Advisors has appointed Alistair Lowe as global equities chief investment officer.

Lowe assumes his new role from Arlene Rockefeller, who is retiring from SSgA after almost 30 years with the firm.

Lowe will direct SSgA’s active and enhanced equity teams globally in the development and management of quantitative active and enhanced equity strategies.

Lowe, who previously served as the chief investment officer for multi asset class solutions, will report to global chief investment officer, Rick Lacaille.

Dan Farley has been named global head of investments for multi asset class solutions replacing Lowe.

"With 25 years’ experience in the investment management field, Ali brings a strong combination of investment experience, leadership, and a track record of innovation to this role and I’m extremely confident in his ability to lead global investment teams and take our equities business to the next level," says Lacaille. "Dan’s extensive experience in asset allocation as well as his tenure on the multi asset class solutions team will aid in a smooth leadership transition."

Lowe joined SSgA in 1996 and has also served as head of currency and as head of the investor solutions group which specialises in tax-efficient management and implementation of active equity strategies. He has been instrumental in contributing to the design and management of liability driven investments, portable alpha and other overlay strategies.

Farley has been with SSgA for 18 years, most recently as head of the US multi asset class solutions team. He has also served as a senior portfolio manager and has assisted clients in the development of strategic investment policy and managing tactical and strategic asset allocation portfolios.
