Robeco has announced that PGGM, one of the Netherlands’ leading pension investors, has awarded it two advanced 3D investment mandates totalling over EUR 15 billion on behalf of its client Pensioenfonds Zorg & Welzijn (PFZW).
These mandates are specifically designed for PFZW and mark a significant milestone in the strategic partnership between PGGM and Robeco, the firm writes.
The mandates:
– 3D Systematic Equity Robeco (EUR11,7 billion)
Aimed at a systematic, bottom-up investment process that bases decisions on specific characteristics of individual companies, while thoughtfully balancing return, risk, and sustainability.
– 3D Credit Robeco (EUR 3,7 billion)
Focused on actively managing a diversified credit portfolio, using a bottom-up approach that equally weighs return, risk, and sustainability.
These solutions were co-designed with PGGM to meet their objectives of balancing risk, return, and sustainability, the firm writes. Robeco leveraged its proprietary Sustainability IP, including the SDG Framework and forward-looking climate analytics (Climate Traffic Light), to define an investable universe while ensuring full transparency into the holdings at all times.
The firm writes that engagement with portfolio companies to make an impact plays a key role in shaping this universe, aiming to identify and invest in companies with the potential to improve their sustainability credentials.
Within this Sustainable Investing universe, Robeco writes that it was able to offer solutions in both systematic equity and fundamental fixed income. “The combination of the strength of Robeco’s investment capabilities and our sustainability expertise were instrumental in securing these mandates.”
There is a growing demand for similar solutions, Robeco writes. “As a result, Robeco has also launched a suite of 3D ETFs, extending our long-standing enhanced indexing strategy. These ETFs offer a more dynamic alternative to passive ETFs, targeting all three investment dimensions to improve performance and sustainability while limiting benchmark deviation.”
Carola van Lamoen, Head of Sustainable Investing at Robeco, says: “These mandates reflect our shared belief with PGGM and PFZW in the importance of balancing risk, return, and sustainability. By integrating our proprietary Sustainable Investing frameworks and active engagement into both systematic equity and credit strategies, we aim to deliver robust investment solutions that support long-term value creation and positive impact.”
