BTIG LLC, a global financial services firm specialising in institutional trading, has made two key additions to their staff with the hiring of David O’Connor and Katie Shields.

O’Connor and Shields each bring significant experience to BTIG’s growing FX business, which now stands at 16 professionals. BTIG recently added a team based in Chicago to complement the New York desk. Since establishing a global FX trading desk in New York in late 2012, BTIG has been steadily increasing the scope and depth of its FX offerings to clients.

O’Connor joins the New York FX desk as a Director in FX Sales. He most recently served as a director in FX sales for three years at Australia’s Macquarie Bank and has also worked in a sales capacity for HSBC Bank USA, Merrill Lynch and Deutsche Bank. He was head of Asian FX sales for RBC Sydney. Throughout his career, he has concentrated on the hedge fund sector. O’Connor will report to Alan Circle and Martin Ferraro, the Co-Heads of FX at BTIG.

Shields joins BTIG as Director of FICC Operations where she will be responsible for back office operations for the Fixed Income, Currency, and Commodities division. Shields is a 14-year veteran of Morgan Stanley, where she has held positions in their Prime Brokerage and Cross-Product Operations groups.

“David’s depth of experience and relationships make him an ideal fit for our growing FX business,” Ferraro says. “Adding Katie is an important step in the evolution of our team and will provide us with experienced back-office personnel as we expand our product offerings and business.”

“We are delighted to have David and Katie join BTIG. These additions illustrate our commitment to furthering our ability to service our clients as the premier global agency FX provider,” says Anton LeRoy, Head of FICC at BTIG. “As the business growth continues to accelerate, we anticipate making additional strategic hires in the coming months.”
