Bloomberg rebrands fixed income indexes

RELATED TOPICS

Bloomberg is rebranding the Bloomberg Barclays fixed income benchmark indexes as the “Bloomberg Indices” as of 24 August, 2021. This change will occur as planned at the end of the five-year period following Bloomberg’s acquisition of Barclays Risk Analytics and Index Solutions (BRAIS) in August of 2016.

The flagship fixed-income benchmarks including the US, Euro, Asia-Pacific, Global Aggregate, US Municipals, High-Yield and Emerging Market indices will all be included in this rebrand, as will all bespoke fixed income indexes. This also includes the Bloomberg Barclays MSCI indices, which, as of 24 August, 2021, will be the Bloomberg MSCI indices.

“We’re very grateful for the support we’ve received from Barclays since the acquisition in 2016,” says Steve Berkley, CEO of Bloomberg Index Services Limited (formerly known as BRAIS). “We are excited by the growth and innovation that we’ve seen across our indices business, and we look forward to continuing to provide leading index solutions not only in fixed income but across asset classes.”

“Throughout Barclays’ history, we have constantly evolved and innovated to better serve our clients’ changing needs,” says Paul Degen, Head of Credit Sales at Barclays. “Having partnered with Bloomberg for many years, we are confident they will build on this tradition and grow under the new brand of the Bloomberg Indices. We thank them for the continued partnership and support.”

Since 1973, the Bloomberg Barclays Indices have been the most widely-used indices for fixed income investors seeking objective, rules-based, and representative benchmarks to measure asset class risk and returns. Whether published under the banner of Kuhn Loeb, Lehman Brothers, Barclays or Bloomberg Barclays, these indices have provided investors with a wealth of market information. On 24 August, 2016, Bloomberg acquired these assets from Barclays, with the agreement that they be co-branded for five years. As of 24 August24, 2021, the indices will be branded as the Bloomberg Indices.

Bloomberg provides an independent, transparent approach to indexing for global customers across core asset classes. Bloomberg also offers an array of services to clients interested in custom index development, investable index products, index administration and calculation agent services.
